About Me

Born and raised in Toronto, I graduated from Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto in 2003 and also hold a Masters degree in urban planning (with distinction) from the University of Hong Kong. I worked for a number of years in non-profits and NGOs and am currently employed as a Policy Advisor with the Ontario Ministry of Infrastructure.

I would describe myself as an urban planning “geek” with a deep interest in urban design, community planning, community engagement, public transit and public space issues. I am specifically interested in discovering the connections between urban planning and community formation. I believe that the formation of community infrastructure such as social networks and community identity can be guided by the planning and urban form of a neighbourhood. Indeed, the way a city is built can encourage or discourage the growth of strong communities and I believe that planning can be about finding the right balance that will encourage this to happen.

My professional qualifications include substantial experience in political and advocacy work, project management work, and a solid background in research and analysis. I am currently a volunteer Project Co-ordinator at the Centre for City Ecology and I serve on various non-profit Boards in the community including the Metro Toronto Chinese and Southeast Asian Legal Clinic. I can speak English and Cantonese and have a working knowledge of Mandarin.
